Oxcarts
Oxcarts are non-motorized vehicles powered by beasts of burden. They have been used for thousands of years in many parts of the world. In Asia they were still in use up until recently. In fact in parts of Laos and Burma they still are in use. The skill involved in making ox carts, especially the wheel, is considerable. Indeed, the wheelwright was a venerable occupation. We have several fine oxcarts to offer from Southeast Asia. The use of teak and rosewood with distinct Southeast Asian styling makes them a joy to look at and appreciate.
1. Lampang Oxcart
Sort of the "Ford" of the region, the Lampang Oxcart was once quite common in and around northern Thailand. The wheels are a standard dimension of 1.4 meters (55 inches,) in diameter. They have teak wood spokes and rims, reinforced with steel, and solid rosewood hubs. The carriage part may vary some. These units are easily 50 or more years old.

Price: $1,500 - $2,000 FOB Ashland, OR
2. Laos Oxcart
This unit is made entirely of rosewood. It is newer, perhaps only 25-35 years of age. The wheel diameter is 1.7 meters or 66 inches. The back of the bed is open, intended for bushels of rice or sugar cane to hang out the back some. Overall it is in very good condition and a beautiful piece of traditional farm equipment.

Price $1,500 FOB Ashland, OR
3. Phrae Oxcart
Oxcarts from Phrae province in northern Thailand are uncommon and have a very distinct carriage design with the carved side frames turning dramatically up and forward. The wheels are a bit smaller (1.1 meters or 43 inches in diameter), but very sturdy with stout rims and nice thick spokes. The unit we have available has a rough hewn teak wood fork for fastening to the animals. This is clearly the repair job of a countryman and not the factory original. It is crude but it gives it a very nice rustic touch at the same time. The condition overall is very good and it happens to be my favorite design style.

Price: $1,400 FOB Ashland, OR
4. CARTWHEELS
We have more teak and rosewood cartwheels:
Carved cartwheels from Burma
Cartwheels from Lamphun Province, Thailand
Cartwheels from Phrae Province, Thailand
Cartwheels from Lampang Province, Thaland
