About Salla Thai

For most my life I have been more about trees than wood. Trees have been a great interest and inspiration of mine since early childhood. I loved to walk among the trees. I climbed them and studied them. As a trained biologist (M.S. Humboldt State University), I learned about and championed for the conservation of the few remaining old trees in the Pacific Northwest. And while traveling in Asia I would often go to temples primarily to see the big trees spared the axe on these sacred grounds.

However, wood has also been a source of great personal pleasure and work. It is among the chief gifts we get from the trees. Wood has of course been a major part of human cultural history. Again, while traveling in Asia I came across a surprising abundance of salvaged wood still in circulation. Why exactly my eye was drawn to these items I cannot exactly say. In any event I decided to bring some back to America. For my home and garden. And to learn and share with others.
